SUSTAINABILITY

Roof and floor decking play an important role in the life cycle of a building.  The steel used to produce Wheeling Corrugating deck products is made from recycled materials that typically exceed minimum requirements.  To aide in the building of a more sustainable environment, Wheeling Corrugating has strategically located manufacturing facilities throughout the United States.

LEED Version 3.0
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, LEED®, is a credit rating system whose main focus is supporting a sustainable environment.   Within the rating system there are five categories, Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, and Indoor Environmental Quality.  Each category is defined based on the level of environmental importance and then allocated points per credit.  The amount of points a project obtains will define the LEED® classification, Certified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum.  Additional points can be obtained through Innovation in Design and Regional Priority.   Wheeling Corrugating can assist in the Material and Resources category with credits MR4- Recycled Content, MR5- Regional Materials, and possibly Regional Priority depending on the jobsite location.

MR 4- Recycled Content Requirements
Materials with recycled content such that the sum of postconsumer recycled content plus ½ of the preconsumer content constitutes at least 10% or 20%, based on cost, of the total value of the materials in the project.  Because of the way steel is produced, it is the leading recycled content provider.  Wheeling Corrugating potentially can achieve the maximum two points for recycled content.

MR 5- Regional Materials Requirements
Materials or products that have been extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 500 miles of the project site for a minimum or 10% or 20%, based on cost, of the total materials value.  If only a fraction of a product or material is extracted, harvested, or recovered and manufactured locally, then only that percentage (by weight) can contribute to the regional value.  Meeting the requirements of this credit is contingent upon the jobsite location and extracted, harvested, or recovered site.

Regional Priority Requirements
Regional priority credit is determined by geographic priority.  Please log onto www.usgbc.org to establish incentive points within your area.

Complete documentation with recycled content, manufacturing location, and harvested and extracted site will be provided once the manufacturing of the decking is complete.  If LEED® Regional Priority is part of the project requirements; please speak to your local Wheeling Corrugating sales representative prior to the time of bid.

ARRA
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is administered by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.  The Buy American Recovery Act Section 1605 Title XVI states, “None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available by this Act may be used for a project for the construction, alteration, maintenance, or repair of a public building or public work unless all of the iron, steel, and manufactured goods used in the project are produced in the United States.”  Wheeling products are produced within the United States of America. In most standard design projects, steel decking will surpass the building life cycle.  Even at the end of life cycle, recycling Wheeling deck will fulfill the cradle-to-grave process.
